Echoes of Silence

Echoes of Silence

Memory does not behave like photography. It fades, reframes, forgets — and returns.

Echoes of Silence is a return to landscape as memory. Each work begins with a photograph I made myself — a landscape encountered, chosen, and carried back into the studio — and is transformed through a process of collage and layered time. The image is printed on 10gsm washi paper, almost translucent, responsive to touch, and mounted on raw canvas. Layers of plant-based acrylic partially veil the surface. Slowly, the photograph dissolves into the material. The landscape becomes presence.

Small folds, tensions, irregularities remain visible. No correction, no perfection. This is intentional. Memory, too, is never a faithful replica of what we saw or felt. The fragility of the paper mirrors the fragility of what we carry inside us.

This series grows from a deep concern for the natural world — and for the quiet disappearance of what once felt permanent. Each work is a slow gesture of attention: shaped by care, and by the conviction that what we still have is worth holding on to.

What remains is a trace. A meditation. A glimmer of hope.

Sustainability is embedded in the material foundation of the work. Surfaces are built up with a gesso of mineral powders and plant-based binders, forming a stable and non-toxic ground in which mycelium functions as a binding element.

The work develops across linen and fine washi. Layers of plant-based acrylic are applied gradually, allowing the surface to remain responsive to time and handling.
